ELSIE'S STORY
In my early 50’s I became moody, unmotivated, I would cry at anything even a commercial. These symptoms came about slowly and I almost accepted them as “just getting older”. I decided to see a physician and see what was happening to my once very responsive body and mind. Blood test were done and I was told I had an underactive thyroid and all I needed to do was take a prescription and live with the rest. The doctor confirmed that I am getting older and these things will happen. Hearing this from my doctor made no sense – how can I, a once very active, energetic person just live with this and take some pills. NO I wasn’t going to accept it.
So I decided to try a more natural approach and saw a naturopath doctor who did some different blood tests and confirmed that I had Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. An autoimmune disease where the body attacks the thyroid. Again a prescription was required but lifestyle changes were made also. I began with smoothies – every veggie I could put in. Felt so much better – processed foods had been removed. Needed protein so moved to ketogenic lifestyle. This created another huge improvement with the addition of protein and high fat. Felt even better.
I then decided to try full on carnivore to remove any plants from my lifestyle and again my well being improved. What was common in all of this??? The removal of processed foods. So I have come to realize that any type of “diet” can be followed. They are all the same by general standards. They are just following a different amount of the three macronutrients. Are some better than others? Absolutely. We can figure out what is best for our bodies.
